Gowns

Weddings and Prom Gowns

Madam To Sew’s began by making custom gowns for weddings, proms and babies. That experience – making gowns from the inside out- assures your gown alterations will fit perfectly, look beautiful and feel great. You can define how you want your gown to look and fit. Madam to Sews will offer insight into solutions and the costs. We handle all types of fabrics and finishes, from cottons, chiffons, polys, silks and spandex to fully beaded gowns. Vintage or new; every dress is unique and important at Madam to Sews.

From “just a hem” to combining two dresses into one, Madam To Sews can do it! We change necklines, straps and sleeve styles to the most flattering or comfortable style for Brides, Grandmothers, Flower girls and Prom Teens.

Bride’s maid dresses from on-line sellers usually require a length adjustment and sometimes, full size adjustments throughout the dress. We can help you with that, too, with an inventory of supplies and materials in-house for alterations.

All gown alterations require an appointment. Allow 25 minutes for ‘just a hem’ and bring your shoes height and undergarments to the appointment. Consultations are 30 minutes. You can text a link of your dress or a picture of you wearing the dress to Madam to Sews before you call for an appointment.

It’s a special pleasure for Madam to Sews to make-over vintage and new wedding gowns into Flower Girl dresses, Christening gowns or rompers for boys, using your design or our suggestion. We’ll consider all ideas for re-making a gown – from ring pillow to slipcover.

Below is a list of the most common adjustments and alterations to wedding gowns and long dresses :

  • Adjusting straps: shortening and re-styling, adding straps to strapless dresses
  • Adjust necklines: gaps, bra coverage, more flattering style or for modesty
  • Sleeves – shorten, taper, or re-style
  • Make smaller OR larger through bust, waist or hip
  • Contour close to body
  • Shorten length at hem OR lift the length at the waist
  • Eliminate trains
  • Add bustles or wrist bracelets to trains (brides, proms and formals with trains)
  • Steaming and pressing

Call or text to discuss how we can help you with your specific alterations.

Madam to Sews’ Shop is on the first floor (two steps at the door). We have a private changing room and seating for a friend or family / caregiver to join you. Babies in carriers are welcome, but crawlers must be held, please.

Reviews

'Had a great experience here with Linda. She was able to fit me in for a hem on a bridesmaid dress with a tight time line and had a great return time on it. She was also very pleasant and had good customer service. Would definitely go back for any other alterations and would recommend to anyone.'
