The Story of Madam to Sews – Meet Linda Behan
The story of Madam to Sews started as most sewists’ do: tiny fingers pinching fabric around a doll’s waist; making Party Dresses! On to making my clothes and Prom dresses in High School, selling hand-mades at Craft Fairs through college. When I worked for IBM, where the dress code was literally dresses or suits, I learned to make them well, with style. Over the next ten years I made dresses and gowns for my co-worker and clients, too, shopping the Garment District at lunch.
I left IBM for Parson’s School of Design to pursue my true career. I launched “The Dressmaker” from my NY apartment, making custom wear for brides, women, proms and infants. I sewed for designers showing in Paris and NYC Fashion Weeks; for theaters, and my original designs for my Etsy costumes shop. I gave tailored sewing lessons in my Sewing Studio. For some years I worked with a Drapery Workroom, learning the trade techniques. Sewing is Sewing … and I love it all!
Today I own Madam to Sews alteration and tailor shop in Simsbury, CT, bringing all my experience to my new hometown. Expert alterations and tailoring for men, women, brides, teens and children. Simple repairs and mending are welcome. I’m delighted with special requests to replicate or make something “from scratch”; to mend/rebuild/save a special toy or garment. I’m happy to accommodate and provide alterations and adaptations for clients’ special needs or sensitivities.
I custom-make replacement cushion covers for your home and patio. I can alter and shorten drapes and curtains.
Tailoring, mending, making, teaching … Madam to Sews is happy to provide all manner of Sewing!
